Hello Ho Chi Minh!
Last November, we traveled to a land where we were considered millionaires ;)
Seriously though, we had millions of Dong in our wallets/pockets. Of course a million there really wasn't much, considering the exchange rate. It just felt strangely empowering to have hundred thousand bills stashed away in our bags. The drawback was when it came to buying things, all those zeros kinda made it hard for us to figure out how much items were in pesos.
Walking around Saigon was a challenge of the lets-try-not-to-get-run-over-by-motorcycles variety. Crossing streets was stressful, picture this: every intersection or crosswalk had about 50 motorcycles coming towards us at full speed. All the time. Oh, and as an added thrill, some motorcycles would even cruise (zip?) along the sidewalks. Kind of makes you appreciate Manila and our crazy (but not as kaskasero) jeep/bus drivers.
Kind of.
Say whutttttt.
Spotted on board the tour bus that took us to our river cruise.
Pinoy pride! San Miguel beer is really so popular in so many other Asian countries.
Ben Thanh market, which travel blogs said was a must-see. Didnt really think it was that great, Divisoria and Greenhills have better stuff (and better prices). There really wasnt that much variety, I cant even count the stalls that sold North Face, Nike, and Adidas "overruns". We splurged on the coffee though, it made the perfect pasalubong for our friends and family.
A visit to the War Remnants Museum on our last day. Or what I'd like to call "the most miserable and depressing hour of the whole trip". It was a tourist-y thing to do, and we learned a lot about the Vietnam war and the after-effects and consequences on the Vietnamese, but it sucked all the happy energy right out of us.
Notre Dame Cathedral
Candy at the neighborhood convenience store! Why hello, Milo bars.
At the airport, catching our flight to Siem Reap.
More Vietnam posts coming up!!
