Sabtang is known for its lighthouse and the old stone houses of the Chavayan and Savidug villages, as well as white sand beaches and Mission-style churches.
Ivana Port
Before boarding the faluwa to Sabtang, we asked our tour guide if dolphins and whales were a common sight in Batanes. Apparently, they are but it's also a belief of the Ivatan elders that when a whale is spotted, a typhoon or storm is coming.
Morong Beach
Aside from the long stretch of white sand, this beach is most famous for its natural rock arch formation called the Mayahaw Arch.
Savidug Village
St. Thomas Aquinas Chapel
Old Beaterio
Chavayan Village
Sta. Rosa De Lima Chapel
The only remaining cogon grass-roofed church in Batanes.
Sabtang Church
This chapel was originally built by the Dominicans in 1785.
Sabtang Lighthouse
Chamantad-Tinyan Viewpoint
Saved the best for last. This was easily the best stop on our Sabtang tour, the most beautiful, and the place where we spent the most time.
You turn to one side and see the beauty of the rolling hills. You turn to the other and see the crashing waves, the white sand, and the jewel tone of the clear waters. And all these amazing scenes under a beautiful blue sky. It's, in a word, breathtaking.
